캠프 레드클라우드, 대한민국 – 2013년 1월 22일 주한미군과 대한민국 육군의 장병들이 함께 캠프 케이시에 모여 워싱턴 D.C. 에서 진행된 제 57대 미국 국가원수의 취임 축하연에 참가를 했다.
미군의 모든 병과 장병들과 대한민국 육군 대령 및 카투사 장병이 위성통신을 이용하여 죠 바이든 미국 부대통령과 4천여명의 축하연 참석자 및 수백만 TV시청자들에게 메세지를 말했다.
미 제2보병사단 숀 크리머 중령을 시작으로, 대한민국 육군 제17사단 102연대 표세우 대령 그리고 각 병과의 장병들은 바이든 부통령에게 차례대로 미국 대통령과 부통령의 백악관 제2기 임기의 성공을 기원하는 발표를 했다.
제1전투여단 제2-9보병대대 대대장 크리머 중령은 “각하, 이곳 한국에서 모든 장병들은 대통령의 제2기 임기와 귀하의 행운을 기원하며 축하합니다,” 며 “미8군과 미2사단소속 남녀 장병들은 국가의 부름에 ‘오늘 밤 싸운다’란 각오로 자유의 최전선에서 준비태세를 확고히 하고 있습니다,”고 말했다.
각 병과의 장병들은 자신들을 소개하고 재선된 대통령실팀에게 축하인사를 했다. 생방송 인터뷰는 장병들에게 미국 부통령과 함께하는 인생일대의 기회를 제공하였다.
제17사단 102연대장 표 대령은 “지난 60여년동안, 한-미 공조는 한반도 평화와 번영의 굳건한 토대가 되었습니다,” 며 “대한민국 국군을 대표하여, 귀하와 미국 대통령의 아주 특별한 날을 축하하고 싶습니다,”고 말했다.
미 제2보병사단 대변인인 죠 스크로카 중령은 “이번 행사는 미 제2보병사단과 8군 사령부에게 엄청난 기회가 되었습니다,”며 “대한민국에서 복무하는 미군 장병들이 금번 행사와 같은 큰 행사에 참여하는 것이 최초였으며 제 생각엔 이번 기회 제공이 한미공조의 중요성을 여실히 보여준다고 생각합니다. 본인은 우리가 한국내 모든 병과의 장병들과 대한민국 육군 동반자와 함께 이번 행사에 참여하여 훌륭하게 성공해낸 것에 기쁩니다”고 말했다.
USFK and ROK Army Participate in U.S. Inaugural Ball
CAMP RED CLOUD, Korea – United States Forces-Korea and Republic of Korea Army service members joined together Jan. 22, 2013 at Camp Casey, Korea, to participate in the 57th Commander-In-Chief Inaugural Ball held in Washington, D.C.
Members from all branches of the U.S. military, a Republic of Korea Army colonel, and a KATUSA, spoke via satellite to Vice President Joe Biden, 4,000 inaugural ball attendees, and millions of viewers watching the interview live on television.
Led by Lt. Col. Shawn Creamer of the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division, and ROK Army Col. Pyo Se-woo of the 102nd Regiment of the ROK 17th Infantry Division, the service members spoke one-on-one with Biden, offering well wishes for the U.S. President and Vice President’s second term in the White House.
“Sir, from everyone here in Korea, congratulations and best of luck to you and the President in your second term,” said Creamer, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team. “Rest assured that the men and women of United States Forces Korea, Eighth Army and the 2nd Infantry Division stand ready on Freedom’s Frontier to ‘Fight Tonight’ if called upon.”
Each member of the group introduced themselves and congratulated the re-elected executive office team. The live interview offered each service member an opportunity of a lifetime to interact with U.S. Vice President.
“For the last 60 years, the ROK-U.S. Alliance has been a solid foundation for the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula,” said Pyo, commander of the 102nd Regiment, 17th Infantry Division. “On behalf of the Republic of Korea armed forces, I want to congratulate you and the president on this special day.”
“This was a tremendous opportunity for the 2nd Infantry Division and our Eighth Army, USFK and ROK Army counterparts,” said Lt. Col. Joe Scrocca, 2nd Infantry Division spokesman. “This is the first time service members in Korea have had the opportunity to participate in an event like this and I think it really shows the importance of the ROK-U.S. Alliance. I am glad we could bring together service members from across Korea as well as our ROK Army partners to make this event a great success.”
